I. How to Meditate
Sit on the floor in a seated position, legs crossed. Your spine should be straight, not rigid. Place a pillow or blanked under your hips to remove any tension in your knees. Now, place both your hands on your knees with palms up. Touch the thumbs to the index fingers. This helps seal the meditative energy inside you.
Focus on your breath. Relax. Breathe in, and, breathe out. If you have a mantra or favorite verse then silently repeat it with each inhalation, and again, with each exhalation
If you get distracted by thoughts, emotions or any noise. Don't worry, just bring your attention back to your breath and the mantra.
As you continue to meditate in this manner you will notice the mantra falling away, and your breath becoming lighter and lighter. This is a sign that you are going deeper into meditation.
Try to sit for meditation in the same place every time. In this way you create a sacred place.
If possible, try to meditate at the same time every day. Make mental note of the time of day you plan to meditate or place a reminder on your door, wall or place you will be sure to see it.
